Random Points

First, this article caught my eye in relation to my post on illegal immigration. Although the study seems to acknowledge that there may have been imperfections I think this confirms what most objective people figured to be true: That immigrants are no more of a drain than ordinary citizens that also pay taxes.

Oddly enough, if immigrants get less health care than natural born citizens, then we ought to encourage more health care. The cost of immigrants not seeking treatment for easily curable diseases that are highly contagious is much greater than the cost of a little more health care. Something tells me Bill O'Reilly will not be talking about this tomorrow.

[Edit: I was very wrong about this, I misread it, I apologize.]

Second, I had a funny discussion with my dad about the ends justifying the means. Then we stumbled upon the inverse of that, that the means justify the ends. After thinking, we decided that the perfect example of a group that believes the means justify the ends would be the organizers of Live8. They do not really care what the actual effect of their contribution is. In fact, LiveAid ended up giving money to dictatorships, but it was one hell of a set of concerts.

[I do, however, stand by my mocking of Live8. Such fools.]

Hold your horses there, young fella.
The immigrant health care usage is what exactly? Is it concern that immigrants (legal & illegal) use more health care services than legal US residents? This is an implausible concern, since immigrant is such a fuzzy concept. Is it a concern that illegal immigrants use more health care services than legal US residents? This is implausible since who should be concerned about how illegal immigrants spend their money. Do they eat more pizza than legal US residents? Is it a concern that illegal immigrants impose costs on the US health care system by using health care services that they cannot pay? This a reasonable concern and the study you cited does not illuminate the issue.

And since when does being some punk kid at the University of Chicago give you the insight into the motivations of the LiveAid and Live8 contributors? Since never!

Means justify the ends ... hmmm...
It seems to be more than a Zen thing, embrace the means, embrace the process.

New York's got the ways and means. They just won't let you be.

Sometimes the lights all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. Lately it occurs to me.
WHAT A LONG STRANGE TRIP IT'S BEEN!

Good point Jim, the study does not say that immigrants use less government funded healthcare which is what I happened to read at 3am the night before. My apologies to all, but I will make up for this gaf with an interesting article on car-prices...now.
